About Ide

The ide (Leuciscus idus) is a sturdy member of the carp family with a torpedo-shaped body and fairly large scales. The back is grey-green, the sides silvery and the underside white or yellowish, while the pelvic and anal fins are a striking orange to red. It lives in lakes and slow rivers and tolerates brackish water. In Norway the species is native only to the lowlands of eastern Norway, such as lower Glomma, Drammenselva and Mjøsa. Spread to new waters has earned it a high-risk (HI) rating as regionally alien on the Norwegian Alien Species List 2023. It eats insect larvae, snails, mussels, crustaceans and plants. It spawns in April and May in flowing water over stones or sand. It can reach about 1 m and 8 kg, though Norwegian fish are mostly 30–40 cm. Anglers can catch it on bait as well as on fly or small spinners.

1. Norwegian sport-fishing records are registered with Villmarksliv, not with FishComp. Read the rules before you do anything else with the fish.
