The thinlip grey mullet (Chelon ramada, formerly Liza ramada) looks much like the thicklip grey mullet, but its upper lip is narrower and carries a row of fine teeth rather than warty bumps. The body is long and silvery, steel blue on the back and paler below, with large scales and two short dorsal fins set well apart. Most are around 35 cm, and the largest reach about 70 cm and just over 3 kg. It moves in schools in shallow coastal water, rarely below 10 m, and readily enters lagoons, estuaries and rivers. It feeds on algae, detritus and small animals. Spawning happens at sea near the coast between autumn and winter. The range runs from West Africa and the Mediterranean north to the Baltic. In Norway it is an occasional visitor, recorded north to Trøndelag. In southern Europe anglers use float tackle with bread or paste. Norwegian Red List 2021: Not Applicable (NA).
