About Lesser argentine

The lesser argentine (Argentina sphyraena) is a small, slim, silvery fish with large eyes and an adipose fin. It looks much like its close relative the greater argentine, but it is smaller: typical fish are around 20 cm and the largest known about 35 cm, while the greater argentine can grow twice as long. The lesser argentine has a more southerly range. Its range stretches from Norway and Iceland down to Western Sahara, and it also lives in the Mediterranean. In Norway it is common in deeper water along the coast as far north as Nordland, at roughly 50 to 700 m. It feeds mainly on small bottom animals such as worms, small molluscs and crustaceans. Most are caught as bycatch in shrimp trawls, often together with greater argentines. For anglers it is a rare and unexpected catch on small hooks in deep water. How to register a Norwegian record

1. Norwegian sport-fishing records are registered with Villmarksliv, not with FishComp. Read the rules before you do anything else with the fish.
2. Records are based on weight and approved by a jury. You give the weight and length, where it was caught, the gear you used and any witnesses.
3. Keep your photos and notes from the catch. Logging it in FishComp does not register a record.
