The hollowsnout grenadier (Coelorinchus caelorinchus, formerly spelled Coelorhynchus coelorhynchus), also called the silvery grenadier, is a small deep-water rattail. It has a robust head and a body tapering into a long, pointed tail with no true tail fin. The snout is sharp, with a hard ridge running back to the gill cover, and the body is silvery grey. Most are around 30 cm, with a maximum of roughly 48 cm. It lives near the seabed on the outer shelf and upper slope, usually at 200 to 500 m, though it has been taken from under 100 m to almost 1,500 m. It occurs in the Mediterranean and the eastern Atlantic north to Norway, where it is rare. It eats mainly small bottom crustaceans and worms, with the odd fish or squid. Of no interest to anglers, it turns up mostly as deep-trawl bycatch. Norwegian Red List 2021: Not Applicable (NA).
