About Drummond's pearlfish
Jonathan Couch · speilvendt (Public domain)
Drummond's pearlfish (Echiodon drummondii) is a little-known, eel-like fish of the pearlfish family. It grows to about 30 cm, large for its family. The body is long and slender, tapering evenly to a point without a separate tail fin. It is reddish with a silvery belly and gill covers, large eyes and dark markings on the head, and the lateral line is very faint. It lives near the seabed in deep water, roughly 50–400 m, in the North Sea, around Britain and Ireland and in Norwegian waters, and has also been found off Iceland and the Azores. It can live freely, feeding on small invertebrates and little fish. Pearlfishes are known for sheltering inside sea cucumbers, slipping in through the animal's rear opening, and this species has been reported doing so too. Otherwise its biology is poorly known. It has no angling interest. Norwegian Red List 2021: Least Concern (LC).

Log your catchHow to register a Norwegian record
- Norwegian sport-fishing records are registered with Villmarksliv, not with FishComp. Read the rules before you do anything else with the fish.
- Records are based on weight and approved by a jury. You give the weight and length, where it was caught, the gear you used and any witnesses.
- Keep your photos and notes from the catch. Logging it in FishComp does not register a record.
