About Murray's sculpin

Murray's sculpin (Triglops murrayi), also called the moustache sculpin, is a small, slender sculpin. It has a more pointed head and narrower tail than typical sculpins, with oblique skin folds along the lower sides. The back is brown with four dark saddle marks, the belly is pale and the tail fin carries thin cross-bands. Males usually carry a clear black spot on the back part of the first dorsal fin. Males reach about 20 cm and females just under 16 cm. It lives in the North Atlantic and the Atlantic side of the Arctic Ocean, from Hudson Bay and Greenland to Iceland, Scotland, Norway and the Barents Sea. It lives near the bottom at 50–250 m and takes crustaceans and bristle worms. It is rarely caught on rod and line but can take a small hook when fishing near the bottom. Norwegian Red List 2021: Least Concern (LC).
