The Arctic eelpout (Lycodes reticulatus) is an Arctic bottom-dwelling fish in the eelpout family. Like its relatives it has a long, eel-like body in which the dorsal, tail and anal fins merge into one, a broad head and thick lips. Both its Latin and Norwegian names mean 'net-patterned'. It is larger and sturdier than its close relative, the polar eelpout, reaching around 35 cm. The species lives in cold Arctic seas, including the Barents Sea and waters around Svalbard and Jan Mayen. It keeps to muddy bottom from about 100 m down to more than 900 m, feeding on crustaceans and bivalves, while larger fish also take small fish. It has no importance for anglers and is mostly seen in research surveys or as trawl bycatch. Little is known about its population, but there is no sign of decline. Norwegian Red List 2021: Least Concern (LC).
