The spotted barracudina (Arctozenus risso, formerly Notolepis rissoi) is a long, slender, silvery fish that resembles a thin pike with a large mouth, big eyes and an adipose fin. It grows to about 30 cm. It lives in most of the world's oceans, the Southern Ocean excepted, and in the northeast Atlantic it is common in the Norwegian Sea. Since the 1960s it has also become common in the Barents Sea and around Svalbard. It lives in open water from the upper layers down to several hundred metres, alone or in small schools, and hunts small fish and shrimps. The species is hermaphroditic and spawns over continental slopes and banks, and its larvae drift in the plankton. It is caught almost only in research trawls and has no angling interest. Norwegian Red List 2021: Least Concern (LC).
