The muran eelpout (Lycenchelys muraena), also called the moray wolf eel, is an extremely slender deep-sea eelpout. Its body is so long and thin that it resembles a small moray, which is what the species name refers to. The dorsal and anal fins merge with the tail fin, and the colour is a uniform dark brown. It rarely grows beyond about 22 cm. The Norwegian zoologist Robert Collett described it in 1878 from a specimen taken at 640 m west-southwest of Bodø. It lives on the bottom in cold, deep water, roughly 350–1,700 m, in the Norwegian Sea, off Greenland and in the Kara Sea, south to the Faroe Islands. Its feeding and breeding habits are poorly known. It has no angling interest and is known almost entirely from research surveys. Norwegian Red List 2021: Least Concern (LC).
