About Bullet tuna

The bullet tuna (Auxis rochei) is a small tuna with a thick, rounded body and two widely separated dorsal fins. Its back is dark bluish-purple, with dark wavy or oblique stripes on the scaleless rear part of the upper body, and the belly is silvery white. A band of scales, the corselet, covers the front of the body and is broad beneath the second dorsal fin, which helps separate it from the very similar frigate tuna (Auxis thazard). The species is found in tropical and subtropical seas worldwide, including the Mediterranean and the eastern Atlantic; it is not a Norwegian species. Schools roam both coastal and oceanic waters from the surface down to around 200 m, feeding on small fish, crustaceans and squid. The usual size is about 35 cm, with a maximum of roughly 50–55 cm. Where it is common, anglers catch it trolling small lures and feathers. IUCN: Least Concern (LC). Norwegian Red List 2021: Not Applicable (NA).

1. Norwegian sport-fishing records are registered with Villmarksliv, not with FishComp. Read the rules before you do anything else with the fish.
